Olivier Clavel
I was born in 1972 in Antibes, France. My first creations were graffiti at the age of 14 - illicit nights with aesthetic aims. Painting was naturally the next step. To master the basic techniques for my graffiti work, I took painting classes.
In 1995 I was offered a place at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where I studied for one year before deciding to leave. Learning based on investigating concepts was a far cry from my vision of the design and creation of art.
By then it was obvious that I must go ahead alone. I continued to learn, self-taught in my studio. The wonders of nature, experiments with color and much introspection were my starting points. And of course, the history of art.
Since 2002 I have concentrated on painting my travels in America and Asia. My feeling for space and volumes, and for the colours that reach out to me, is what I represent. I describe my connection to this world and aspire to share it.
